Style Guide: A Taste Of Paris

Ah, Paris! The city of love, fashion, delicious food, and amazing scenery - what destination could be better for a late spring/early summer getaway? For me, Paris isn't about the Eiffel Tower (not a fan of heights), and it's not even about idyllic cruises down the Seine, it's about the fashion!

Whether you're a designer buff or a bargain hunter, there is surely something in Paris to suit you. And if your credit card can't take a trip to the French capital itself, I’ll show you exactly how to fake it in your own city, so everyone thinks you've experienced à la française all for yourself.

1. Tasteful Tourist

As I mentioned in our post on Cruisin’ Through The Caribbean, there are moments when you should embrace the fact that you are a tourist, but visiting Paris is not one of them. In this case, I prefer to “blend in” with the locals, which pretty much means putting together looks that ooze chic sophistication.

The summer months in Paris are not searing hot, but they're not cold either, so you need to dress for both sides of the mercury scale. This fluid Needle & Thread silk-crepe gown is simply perfect for Parisian style, and when paired with this boater hat you will have tourists coming up to you asking for directions and suggestions on the hottest local spots to visit.

2. Classic Confidence

Embracing Parisian fashion is all about putting forth an effortless and confident persona, and it's easy to do when you are comfortably dressed. These straight leg pants are ideal for city days, and when you pair them with these comfortable yet super-stylish Valentino T-strap flats, the look goes from zero to hero instantly! Of course, you need an on-trend bag to finish the look, and our Marissa tote is ideal with enough room inside for everything you will need throughout the day.

3. Parisian Chic

One of the most iconic looks every fashionista has attempted to achieve at one point or another is Parisian chic. To pull it off, you not only need a few, high-quality investment pieces but perhaps, more importantly, you need to exude a certain je ne sais quoi! Focus on all the personal traits you love about yourself and you will exude confidence and allure naturally.

These Stella McCartney track pants tow the perfect line between casual and chic. A scarf is, of course, a must when in Paris, and we prefer one in a classic solid for more versatility and lighter packing.

Coco Chanel, the legendary French designer, said it best: “A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.” Follow these suggestions and you'll be rocking Parisian style before you know it without the 'tourist' tag!

Check back next week when we'll be swimming our way into summer. Can you believe it's already here?!
